What I Packed In My Holiday Make-up Bag

So the time has fiiiiiinally come and I am off like rotten chops in the sun for a two week holiday in ‘Merica ya’ll!

I love the ritual of getting out my suitcase and taking the time to pack juuuuust right and I think I did a damn good job with my make-up bag. A minimalist approach with all my favourite make-up bits n’ bobs and a few little extras thrown in if I want to go for, you know, ‘a look’.

First things first, you gotta nail down a perfect base for all those holiday pics in front of buildings, waterfalls or any oversized food sculptures. It’s pretty balmy in the US right now so I opted for a light and dewy base combination with the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter and the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint in Alaska. Of course I also had to bring along my all time fave concealer, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla to cover up any pesky blemishes and conceal those jet-lag inducing dark circles. Prone to a little grease in the T-zone, I also like to do a lil’ light powdering with my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Medium.

Perf for travel, the Benefit Cheekathon blush kit is all you need when it comes to bronzers and blushers. I use the Hoola bronzer to do a bit of an amateur contour job (seriously who actually knows how to contour!?) and then I usually go in with Dandelion or Coralista to add some rosy cheeks. I also never forget to shimmer up ‘dem cheekbones with a dusting of the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone.

A lady should nevaaaah skip brows and for that, I use the Benefit Brow Zing in Light (mine is the old one and there is more shade variety now) and then give them a quick swipe with the Benefit Gimme Brow in Medium/Deep  (same goes with this product) for some added intensity and to keep those bad boys in place.

Usually on a short trip I’ll take a nude and bold lipstick option and for this trip I went with MAC lipsticks in Viva Glam I and Brave. Viva Glam I is a classic deep red, which screams classy broad. Brave is your effortless shlap-on nude shade, ideal for all day errr’y day. Of course, before applying any lipstick I like to put on a touch of my Lucas’ Pawpaw Ointment because my lips are constantly dry AF and a bold lip on a dry canvas just wont do.

For a day-to-day look I’ll skip straight to the mascara however if I’m putting in a little more effort then I’ll give my lids a little dusting with the use of the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette (no longer available, soz). I usually go for a shimmery bronze/gold look with the use of Blonde, Steady and Baby. I also crank a bit of an eyeliner flick with the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper which has to be the most easy to use eyeliner out there right?

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is the new mascara in my life and it may well be my mascara soul mate. If you want long-as-long, wispy lashes then it might be the one for you too! Usually I don’t like to share my soul mates but I’ll make an exception this time.

For brushes, I’m a Real Techniques gal all the way. They are just so bloody reasonably price and do the job just as well as your MAC’s and Chanel’s. For a full face of make up, these are all the brushes I need which include the Multi Task Brush, Contour Brush, Powder Brush, Essential Techniques Foundation Brush, Buffing Brush and the Lash-Brow Groomer.

Usually I stick to my ‘signature scents’ when it comes to perfume however when you have a sample of the Narciso Rodriguez For Her that will last you the whole trip then why not save the packing room?

Phew…that’s all of it. It kind of seems like a lot when I give it the full run through but I can usually get this face done in less than 10 minutes so it’s no big thang.

Until next time…That’s what she said.
